Horizon’s expertise and track record of supporting business services companies will allow us to build scale and diversify our offering

Paul TopleyFounder, Churchesfire

Business

Churches Fire is a nationwide provider of fire safety compliance services based in Southampton.

The company currently delivers the full range of fire safety compliance services to over 8,000 commercial customers from fire risk assessments and safety training to specific detection, containment and evacuation systems.  This includes the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance service for all types of detection, alarm systems, and extinguisher systems.

Market

The UK £1.5bn fire safety market is large, stable and forecast to grow at c.2-3% per annum.  It is underpinned by statutory legislation as well as general corporate governance and best practice compliance.

There is significant potential for Churches Fire to capitalise on the fragmented nature of this market through add-on acquisitions.

Strategy

Horizon is supporting the existing management team to deliver an organic and acquisitive growth strategy that includes:

  • Market consolidation to diversify services and extend the geographic footprint
  • Optimising its robust technology
  • Strengthening sales and marketing capabilities

Developments

Since we invested, Churches Fire has acquired three fire safety businesses. This has both broadened the service offering and strengthened the national coverage.

The business has invested in the senior management team through the hiring of an experienced M&A Director and Commercial Director. The organization has nearly doubled in size too and within the first year post-Horizon’s investment.
